Brentford bid £43m for 1. FC Köln's Said El Mala

Brentford have tabled a £43m bid for 1. FC Köln forward Said El Mala. The move would surpass Brentford’s previous record transfer outlay of £38m for Ivan Toney in 2023. El Mala, 23, has scored 12 goals in 28 Bundesliga appearances this season. Köln have yet to respond officially to Brentford’s approach. Brentford’s recruitment has focused on young attacking talent this window, with manager Thomas Frank prioritising forwards under 25. El Mala joined Köln in 2022 from Ligue 1 side Montpellier for a reported £15m fee. He has one year left on his current contract. If completed, the deal would mark Brentford’s sixth £30m+ outlay under co-owners Hugh and Ryan Fredericks since 2021.
