RFEF technical director updates on Lamine Yamal's return
RFEF technical director Aitor Karanka said Lamine Yamal’s fitness is still being monitored ahead of Spain’s World Cup campaign. Karanka confirmed there is no fixed timetable for the Barcelona forward’s return to the national team. He emphasized that the priority remains caution.
Karanka addressed rumours of an agreement for Yamal to feature in Spain’s third group‑stage match, but he did not confirm any specific date. He noted that communication between the national team and Barcelona’s medical staff has been constant throughout the recovery process. Karanka also recalled his long‑standing relationship with former players Bojan and Deco, describing it as fantastic from the start.
Karanka praised Yamal’s character, highlighting his joy off the field and the freshness he brings on the pitch. He said these qualities will help define an era for Spanish football.
When asked about the management of injured players, Karanka said the medical and coaching staff assess each case individually. Luis has the final decision together with the doctors. Recovery is progressing well for the three players mentioned.
