Roma’s Neil El Aynaoui wants Barcelona move after childhood years in city

🇮🇹 10 uur geleden

Roma midfielder Neil El Aynaoui would ‘be the happiest person in the world’ if he could join Barcelona, his father Younes El Aynaoui told Mundo Deportivo.

The 24-year-old, who moved to Roma from Lens last summer for €23 million, grew up in Barcelona until age 11 and remains a fan of the club. “My son is a Barcelona fan; he lived there until he was 11 years old,” Younes El Aynaoui said. “He would be the happiest person in the world if he could play there one day.”

El Aynaoui has made 34 appearances for Roma across all competitions, scoring twice and providing two assists. He featured in both of Morocco’s opening World Cup group stage matches, playing the full 90 minutes against Brazil and Scotland.

Roma face a capital gain requirement by month-end to meet FFP regulations, prompting potential player sales. The club is reportedly considering offloading Matias Soulé, Evan N’dicka, Mile Svilar, and Manu Koné.

There has been no reported fresh contact between Roma and Barcelona regarding El Aynaoui’s transfer. His father’s remarks come amid ongoing speculation about his future at the Italian club.

El Aynaoui’s performances in Serie A and the Europa League have kept him in Roma’s starting lineup. His contract runs until 2028 after his €23 million move from Lens last summer.

The midfielder’s World Cup involvement with Morocco adds pressure to Roma’s financial decisions. His father’s comments highlight the emotional pull of a Barcelona return.
