Roma set to match Marseille’s fee for Mason Greenwood with €50m offer
Roma are finalising a €50 million bid to sign Mason Greenwood from Marseille, with the French club under pressure to complete a sale by June 30. The Giallorossi’s proposal includes an initial €15-20 million payment by the deadline, followed by a €35 million second installment over several years. This structure would allow Marseille to record the deal in their 2026 financial statements and secure a capital gain. Roma’s sporting director, Daniele D’Amico, met with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini and sporting director Pietro Scala to discuss the move. Club president Dan Friedkin has also been involved in negotiations with Marseille’s president. Roma have already agreed personal terms with Greenwood, with a base salary of €4.5 million plus performance bonuses expected to increase annually.
Marseille faces severe sanctions, including a potential three-year competition ban, if they fail to raise funds by June 30. The club’s urgency has accelerated talks with Roma, who are now positioned as the frontrunner in the race for Greenwood. The structured payment plan aligns with Marseille’s financial needs while providing Roma with flexibility in the transfer. Greenwood’s agent has been in close contact with both clubs throughout the process.
Daniele D’Amico confirmed Roma’s commitment to Greenwood, stating: “We have a clear plan for the player and believe he fits our project.” The deal remains contingent on Greenwood passing medicals and finalising personal terms. Roma’s hierarchy is prepared to meet Marseille’s valuation to secure the winger’s signature before the June 30 deadline.
If completed, Greenwood would join Roma on a contract running until June 2029, with his wage package structured to include significant performance-related bonuses.
