Ryan Jack predicts John McGinn to start over Ryan Christie

🇬🇧 2 uur geleden
Ryan Jack says John McGinn is likely to start instead of Ryan Christie in Scotland's World Cup opener against Haiti. Jack, who was part of Steve Clarke's squad for the Euro 2024 finals, made the comment on BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast. McGinn was on the bench in Scotland's 4-0 friendly win over Bolivia. Jack expects Steve Clarke to line up a 4-4-2 formation for the first game. He suggested Ben Gannon-Doak could provide pace and creativity on the left, opening the door for McGinn to replace Christie. Jack noted that Clarke made a similar change in the recent friendly. Robbie Neilson, former Hearts and Dundee United manager now head coach of Chinese Super League side Shenzhen Peng City, argued McGinn must play after a strong season with Aston Villa. Neilson highlighted McGinn's role in Aston Villa finishing fourth in the Premier League and winning the Europa League. He added that injuries have limited McGinn's appearances and that Clarke might deploy him on the right, as he did in the cup final. Ryan Flynn, an Arbroath midfielder, agreed McGinn should start ahead of Christie. Flynn speculated a midfield pairing of Kenny McLean with Scott McTominay, with McGinn on the left and Lewis Ferguson possibly omitted. He also mentioned Doke could occupy the left side if needed.
