Toni Fernandez awaits Barcelona renewal amid rising external interest

Toni Fernandez remains without a Barcelona contract renewal offer despite mounting external interest. The attacking midfielder, who turns 18 next month, has attracted attention from La Liga clubs Alaves and Sevilla, as well as Real Oviedo in Spain’s second division. His current contract with Barcelona expires in June 2027, leaving one year remaining on his deal.

Barça Atlètic’s disappointing 2025/26 campaign ended just short of the RFEF Primera División play-offs, ensuring another season in Spain’s fourth tier. Eleven players in the squad are entering the final year of their contracts, with Fernandez among those yet to receive a renewal proposal.

Focused on first-team progression, Fernandez is due to report for Barcelona’s pre-season with Hansi Flick’s squad on 13 July. The youngster has already featured in senior football, making his official debut in January 2025 at age 16 years, five months and 17 days—making him the second-youngest Barcelona player to debut in the 21st century.

Toni joined the first team during their 2024 pre-season tour of South Korea and China, and he is eager to build on that experience. Flick has publicly praised Fernandez’s development, reinforcing the player’s motivation to remain at the club.

Under Juliano Belletti’s management at Barça Atlètic, Fernandez made 24 appearances, scored five goals and provided three assists in 2025/26. Despite his contributions, he acknowledges the intense competition for attacking midfield positions in Barcelona’s senior squad.

His stated priority remains to impress during pre-season and continue his development with the first team, even in the absence of a new contract offer. External interest has not yet prompted Fernandez to reconsider his commitment to Barcelona.

The situation remains fluid as the summer transfer window progresses, but for now, Fernandez’s focus is solely on training and competition with Barcelona.
