Torino Host AC Milan First Time Since 1939
Torino will host AC Milan on the opening day of the season, the first time the Serie A side has played at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin since 17 September 1939.
The 1939 fixture ended 2-1 to Torino after AC Milan goalkeeper Micheloni was injured in the 83rd minute. With no substitutions allowed in the 1939/40 season, Loik took over in goal for AC Milan, but Torino secured the winner in the 89th minute.
The two clubs have met twice on opening days at San Siro. On 21 August 2016, AC Milan won 3-2, a match in which Belotti's penalty was saved by Donnarumma in stoppage‑time. On 17 August 2024, the game finished 2-2, Hernández nearly added a third for AC Milan in the final minutes.
Later season clashes have produced dramatic results: a 0-7 AC Milan victory in 2021, a 0-0 draw in 2022 highlighted by Maignan's save that denied Vojvoda, and a Torino win in 2024 when AC Milan had already secured second place.
This encounter marks the very first match of the new campaign, reviving a fixture that has not been played in Turin for 87 years.
