Alexander Blessin leaves FC St. Pauli after relegation
FC St. Pauli confirms Alexander Blessin's departure following their 2. Bundesliga relegation. The club stated Blessin's contract, valid until 2027, will be terminated by mutual consent.
Blessin joined FC St. Pauli in July 2023. His tenure included 34 matches, with 12 wins, 10 draws, and 12 losses. The club finished 16th in the 2023-24 2. Bundesliga, triggering relegation to 3. Liga.
FC St. Pauli's sporting director, Andreas Bornemann, announced the decision. He confirmed the club is already seeking a replacement for the upcoming 3. Liga campaign.
Blessin previously managed Hamburger SV in 2021-22, leading them to a 3rd-place finish in the 2. Bundesliga. His final match with FC St. Pauli ended in a 1-0 defeat to Eintracht Braunschweig on May 18, 2024.
The club will announce a new head coach within the next two weeks. Bornemann emphasized the urgency to stabilize the team for the 3. Liga.
