PSG’s pitch ranks poorly in LFP 2025-26 playing surface standings
The LFP published its 2025-26 pitch rankings on Thursday after a record evaluation cycle. OGC Nice topped Ligue 1 while Nancy led Ligue 2. Paris Saint-Germain’s surface dropped from first place in 2024-25 to a lower-than-expected position.
The rankings assess pitch quality across 14 criteria including playability, maintenance, and durability. OGC Nice scored highest in Ligue 1 with a total of 92.3/100, securing the top spot ahead of RC Lens and Olympique de Marseille.
Nancy finished top of Ligue 2 with 89.1/100, narrowly ahead of FC Metz and EA Guingamp. The rankings reflect investment in synthetic hybrid systems and drainage upgrades at both clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain’s pitch fell to 12th in Ligue 1 with 81.5/100. The club’s surface, praised for its aesthetics last season, now ranks behind smaller clubs like Stade Brestois 29 and FC Lorient.
LFP’s evaluation panel cited uneven wear and recovery delays as key factors in PSG’s lower score. The club’s high-traffic schedule and winter break scheduling were noted as contributing constraints.
Next season’s pitch standards include stricter winter maintenance protocols and mandatory hybrid reinforcement for clubs finishing top three in the rankings.
