Wolves sack Rob Edwards, appoint Cesar Peixoto

🇬🇧 3 uur geleden
Wolves have dismissed manager Rob Edwards and named Cesar Peixoto as his successor. Peixoto had spent the previous three months managing Portuguese club Gil Vicente. New signing Kieran Trippier is among the Wolves players expressing anger at the decision. Edwards was removed seven months after joining the club in November. He discovered the news of his replacement through social media and said he was stunned. Edwards convinced Kieran Trippier to turn down several offers, including from Premier League clubs, to join the relegated Wolves. He also played a key part in Raul Jimenez re-signing and appeared in Jimenez's announced video on Tuesday. Multiple Wolves stars have contacted the 43-year-old manager directly to voice their dismay. The club released a statement saying the decision was about sporting direction, not about character, professionalism or dedication. Edwards signed a three-and-a-half‑year contract when he arrived in November. He inherited a team with two points and was tasked with an almost impossible fight to stay in the Premier League. He arrived from Boro, having left that club the previous November. Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan called Edwards a “treacherous hound” after the sacking. Jordan added that Trippier will be a decent player in the Championship and that Jimenez will perform at that level despite his head injury. He also referenced Maresca’s outburst at Chelsea and his subsequent move to Middlesbrough, suggesting the manager had learned something.
