Why the Dutch squad may outshine Morocco individually

Netherlands head into their World Cup clash with Morocco confident that their squad possesses a superior individual quality, a view echoed by former players and analysts. The Dutch side has already allowed four goals in their first three tournament matches, prompting caution against repeating the lax defending shown versus Tunisia, Sweden and Japan.

Mike Verweij was asked which side holds the better selection and answered that four years ago Morocco would have been the obvious choice. He noted the shift in perception as the Dutch camp now feels stronger individually.

Valentijn Driessen highlighted specific Moroccan talents, naming right back Hakimi as an ‘outside‑category’ player and pointing to Saibari’s development into the same tier. He described these individuals as capable of deciding a match on their own.

Jeroen Kapteijns argued that the Netherlands possesses a superior individual roster, adding that more Moroccan players are now attached to major clubs. He also acknowledged Morocco’s solid collective performance and the emergence of several promising youngsters.

Driessen warned that the Dutch must avoid handing away chances as they did against Tunisia, Sweden and, to a lesser extent, Japan, lest they risk an early exit. He reminded that the Netherlands have already conceded four goals in three games.

The latest Studio Oranje segment examined the ‘aura’ surrounding coach Ronald Koeman and identified a potential trap when facing Morocco and Cape Verde. The discussion emphasized tactical vigilance and the need to manage defensive lapses.
