Ajax reshuffle: Nuijten exits as Grim’s assistant after youth stint

Ajax announced on Friday evening that 33‑year‑old Paul Nuijten has left the club with immediate effect, ending a contract that had run until mid‑2027. Nuijten, who moved from head of the Ajax O19 youth side to become one of Fred Grim’s assistants after Grim took over from Oscar García in March, departs the Amsterdammers after joining the academy in 2024. Nuijten joined Ajax’s youth system in 2024 as the coach of the O17 squad. At the start of the most recent season he was appointed head of the Ajax O19 team. His contract had been secured until mid‑2027, but both parties agreed to terminate it by mutual consent. The club described the separation as a “good mutual agreement”. When Fred Grim assumed the assistant role in March, replacing Oscar García, Nuijten succeeded the Spaniard as the manager of Jong Ajax. The appointment linked him directly to the reserve side that bridges the academy and the first team. During the summer, speculation persisted about whether Nuijten would remain with the O19 side or move elsewhere, with indications that he might return to the highest youth level. His sudden exit from Amsterdam therefore came as an unexpected development. The identity of the next Ajax O19 coach remains undecided. Meanwhile, Míchel continues to lead the first‑team squad, while Carlos García supervises the club’s promising talents.
