Arsenal appoint Real Betis rehab chief Eneko Angulo
Arsenal have appointed Eneko Angulo, the long‑time head of rehabilitation at Real Betis, as their new medical chief, with the move confirmed on 22 June 2026 after Angulo accepted a lucrative offer from the Premier League champions and Champions League finalists in a bid to overhaul their injury department.
Betis consider Angulo's exit a major loss for the club. Angulo departs after twelve years with Real Betis, during which he worked in the youth academy before taking charge of the first‑team rehabilitation set‑up.
Reporter Mateo Gonzalez noted that Angulo accepted a lucrative offer from Arsenal. He had initially developed his work at Betis as an assistant in Manuel Pellegrini's first‑team set‑up after gaining experience in the academy.
On X, Angulo posted a farewell message reflecting on his twelve‑year journey. "It's not easy to say goodbye to you," he wrote, describing his growth from an intern to the head of rehabilitation.
Arsenal are scheduled to face Real Betis in Dublin on 5 August. The club has already released Dr Zaf Iqbal from its medical staff.
Arsenal are recruiting heavily from Aston Villa's medical department to curb recent injury problems. The club hopes the new medical hires will put an end to the injury problems that have plagued them in recent years.
Angulo's expertise is expected to strengthen Arsenal's medical and performance operations. His arrival comes ahead of the Dublin encounter, adding a personal dimension to the upcoming fixture.
