Bernardo Silva signs two-year deal with Real Madrid

Bernardo Silva has signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid, with an option for a third year. The deal follows his departure from Manchester City as a free agent last month. Real Madrid’s project is overseen by manager Jose Mourinho. Silva’s agreement was confirmed by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The 31‑year‑old Portuguese international will join a squad that Mourinho is rebuilding. The contract signals that Madrid view him as both an immediate option and a senior voice. Silva had been linked with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid before Real Madrid secured the move. He left Manchester City after nine years at the Etihad Stadium. During his tenure he collected 20 major honours, including six Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League as part of the 2022‑23 treble. His exit leaves Manchester City’s midfield rebuild to director of football Hugo Viana. City are reportedly targeting Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer. Incoming manager Enzo Maresca will have to rely on Tijjani Reijnders, Nico Gonzalez, Mateo Kovacic and Nico O'Reilly to fill the creative gap. Silva is expected to be registered as a Real Madrid player in the coming days. He will be available for Portugal at the FIFA World Cup in North America. The signing completes a free transfer that was agreed in principle earlier this month.
