Carlisle United sign goalkeeper Archie Mair permanently

Carlisle United have secured Scottish goalkeeper Archie Mair on a permanent basis, signing him to a one‑year contract with an option for a second after his loan spell from Morecambe ended in January. Mair, 25, made a single National League appearance for the Cumbrians against Brackley in April.

After his loan expired, Mair left Morecambe when his contract ran out and agreed a one‑year deal with Carlisle United, which includes an option to extend for a second year.

Mair began his professional career at Aberdeen before moving to Norwich City, although he did not make a first‑team appearance for either club.

He previously worked with Carlisle United manager Rob Elliot during a loan spell at Gateshead, giving the two a prior working relationship.

Mair’s résumé also features loan periods at Lincoln, Notts County and Motherwell, adding experience across different leagues.

Mair said, "I'm looking forward to kicking on," and added that he hopes fans will see more of him, describing himself as confident, calm, and enjoying possession. He emphasized his comfort with the ball at his feet.

Rob Elliot commented, "I've worked with Archie before at Gateshead and know what he can bring. He is a goalkeeper with good presence, confidence, and the ability to play with the ball at his feet." Elliot expressed confidence that Mair will add quality to the squad.
