Cesar Peixoto appointed Wolves manager on two-year deal
Cesar Peixoto has taken over as Wolverhampton Wanderers manager, signing a two-year contract after replacing Rob Edwards at Molineux. The former Portugal international arrives with no prior English experience, having guided Gil Vicente to sixth place in the Primeira Liga last season.
Simon warned that success will depend on how Peixoto engages the quality Wolves players who feel let down by the handling of Edwards' sacking, and he flagged the challenge of recruitment beyond the average stock from Mendes portfolio. David criticised the appointment, noting Peixoto has never worked outside Portugal, never won a trophy and never stayed at a club for any length of time, and predicted he will not last a season.
James called the move a huge punt, arguing that one decent season in Portugal does not make a complete manager and that Peixoto will be judged against Edwards, Pereira, O'Neil and Lopetegui. Lauro expressed hope that the appointment will be followed by more Portuguese talent and a replication of the Nuno era, while Ken warned that the last six managers have been let down and long‑term stability looks unlikely under Fosun.
Robin said that with backing to bring in new players Peixoto could turn things around, but a unchanged squad would likely lead to another struggle. Pete highlighted Peixoto's preferred structure and focus on system and set‑pieces, suggesting Wolves have the tools for a new golden period with a few key additions. Dan recalled his support for Edwards' plan to steady the ship and push for promotion, and Tommy admitted he is not overly excited about the relatively unknown Portuguese manager but hopes Fosun will give Mendes the cheque book to sign decent players.
