Chelsea target Atalanta full‑Back Marco Palestra this summer

Chelsea are reportedly in talks to sign Atalanta right‑back Marco Palestra this summer, journalist Luca Cerchione reported on X, noting the 21‑year‑old’s 37 appearances, one goal and four assists during his loan spell at Cagliari in the previous Serie A campaign.

His current contract with Atalanta runs until the summer of 2029, which could limit Chelsea’s ability to acquire him cheaply this off‑season. The Blues would therefore need to negotiate a transfer fee despite the player’s long‑term deal.

Palestra is praised for his tackling and ability to make interceptions, often delivering the ball forward from the defensive line. He also creates attacking opportunities from the right flank, contributing a goal and four assists in his 37 matches for Cagliari last season.

Primarily a right‑back, he can also operate as a left‑back or as a right‑sided wide player when required. Such versatility gives Xabi Alonso options to rotate his defensive personnel.

At 21, Palestra is regarded as one of Serie A’s best young full‑backs and could add quality and depth to Chelsea’s defence. Alonso is expected to be patient with his development before entrusting him with a regular starting role. If signed, he would join a Chelsea side that already boasts several established full‑backs, increasing competition for places.
