Chelsea target Real Madrid left-back Alvaro Carreras
Chelsea have expressed interest in Alvaro Carreras as a replacement for Marc Cucurella, who is set to leave Real Madrid for the London club. Journalist Simon Phillips reported the Blues’ interest.
Real Madrid completed their first summer signing by securing Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal that could rise to €60 million with add‑ons. Los Blancos are reportedly open to listening to offers for three players.
Cucurella’s arrival is reported to put pressure on three Real Madrid players, including Carreras, a former SL Benfica defender who endured a difficult season after returning to the Bernabeu last summer and is not guaranteed a place in Jose Mourinho’s squad.
Chelsea’s left‑back depth includes Jorrel Hato, Malo Gusto and Valentin Barco, yet new coach Xabi Alonso reportedly wants a natural left‑back, a role Carreras could fill.
Alvaro Carreras would reunite with Xabi Alonso, the manager who recruited him to Real Madrid, and his technical versatility matches Chelsea’s style, although he must improve defensive positioning.
Alonso’s success with full‑backs such as Alejandro Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong at Bayer Leverkusen suggests he could integrate Carreras effectively.
