England replace injured Tino Livramento with Trevoh Chalobah

England’s national team squad suffered an injury blow ahead of their 2026 World Cup opener. Right-back Tino Livramento withdrew due to a calf injury and will return to Newcastle for treatment. Head coach Thomas Tuchel called up Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah as Livramento’s replacement. Livramento leaves the team camp in the United States immediately. Livramento had been in contention to start England’s first match of the tournament. He missed significant portions of the season with physical issues, making only 26 appearances for Newcastle and providing one assist. Chalobah arrives in match shape after 47 appearances for Chelsea in the European season, scoring three goals. He offers tactical flexibility, capable of playing at right-back, left-back, defensive midfield, or either side of central defense. Chalobah earned his senior England debut in June 2023, featuring in the 3-1 loss to Senegal. The Three Lions’ World Cup campaign begins Thursday against Croatia in Dallas. The match kicks off at 5 p.m. Brasília time at AT&T Stadium. England face Ghana and Panama in Group L.
