Evangelos Marinakis Delays Elliot Anderson Manchester City Deal
Evangelos Marinakis is personally handling negotiations with Manchester City over Elliot Anderson, and Nottingham Forest officials, including manager Vitor Pereira, are kept out of the loop. The deal could set a new British transfer record.
Manchester City submitted a second bid of £106 million plus £15 million in bonuses for Anderson. Marinakis deemed the offer unacceptable and is holding out for a total package around £130 million, with an upfront £110 million payment and £20 million in add‑ons.
Nottingham Forest prefers to delay formalising any agreement until July for accounting‑year reasons. Thomas Tuchel has said he is content for England players to undergo medicals during the FIFA World Cup, and Anderson has permission to have a medical at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester United withdrew from the race for Anderson, leaving Manchester City as the sole club in contention. The remaining obstacle is the financial terms demanded by Forest.
Incoming Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca aims to secure Anderson early, as pre‑season preparations are set to begin in July. Maresca’s desire aligns with Forest’s July timeline.
Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook are referenced in the discussion of the negotiations. Their mention underscores Marinakis’s hands‑on approach, consistent with his ownership style since Nottingham Forest’s promotion to the Premier League in 2022.
