Everton to appeal compensation awarded to Burnley

Everton have announced an appeal against a compensation claim awarded to Burnley by a Premier League panel. The panel ruled that Burnley should receive payment for Everton's earlier breach of PSR rules. Everton hierarchy described the decision as flawed and excessively large. The ruling follows a points deduction imposed on Everton for breaching PSR rules four years ago. It also reduces Everton's merit money as they dropped down the table. The Friedkin Group, current owners, now face a significant sum to settle the claim. Former owner Farhad Moshiri was present when the decision was made. No contingency is known to recover the payment from Moshiri's business. The decision is not expected to alter Everton's summer transfer plans. It could have wider implications for Premier League clubs if the appeal fails. Comparisons were drawn to Chelsea's £10 million fine and West Ham's £5.5 million punishment for past violations. Manchester City also faces a similar principle with 115 charges for alleged financial breaches.
