Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool chase Rafael Leão
Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool have received a major boost in their pursuit of attacker Rafael Leão. The Portuguese winger has publicly expressed a desire to join a Premier League club this summer.
Andoni Iraola is Liverpool's new manager and hired a former Feyenoord staff member before being relieved of his duties. In his first season, Slot guided Liverpool to a Premier League title at Anfield after spending over £450 million in the summer.
Iraola and Richard Hughes now face another rebuild a season after Liverpool broke the British transfer record for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Several players have been mooted as targets, with the club receiving a significant boost toward securing one specific name.
Rafael Leão joined AC Milan from Lille in 2019 and has contributed to 145 goals in 291 appearances. In the 2025‑26 campaign he scored 13 goals, and at 26 he remains a regular starter at the San Siro. He has indicated that his next move should be to the Premier League or La Liga, while only Turkish clubs have made concrete inquiries.
Romano quoted Leão saying he wants out of Milan despite no deal being in place, describing the public statements as unusual. He added that signing Leão would be a smart move for Liverpool.
