FC Dordrecht appoints Paul Nuijten as Kuijt successor after Ajax split

FC Dordrecht announced today that 33‑year‑old Paul Nuijten has signed a two‑year contract to become the club’s head coach. The appointment follows the sudden departure of Dirk Kuijt, who left for a role as assistant coach at Turkish side Fenerbahçe. Nuijten said on the club’s website that he is “extremely happy and grateful” for the opportunity at FC Dordrecht. He highlighted the club’s distinct identity, engaged supporters and strong ambition as key attractions. He added that he looks forward to delivering a recognizable team that fans will want to watch at the Krommedijk stadium. Technical manager Sjoerd Ars praised Nuijten, stating he “fits seamlessly with the vision we have as a club.” Ars described him as a young, ambitious and tactically strong trainer who demands much from players while also motivating them. Ajax confirmed on the same evening that Nuijten’s ongoing contract was terminated on Friday. The Dutchman had spent the previous season as assistant to Fred Grim and was set to take charge of Ajax’s under‑19 side before opting for the senior role in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Dirk Kuijt, the former international, chose to join Fenerbahçe as an assistant coach after leaving FC Dordrecht. His move left the Dutch club urgently seeking a replacement, prompting the swift appointment of Nuijten. The club communicated the news through its official channels, confirming the two‑year deal. FC Dordrecht, known as “De Schapenkoppen,” emphasized that the new coaching appointment is part of a broader plan to develop players, staff and the top‑sport environment.
