Gavin Strachan joins West Brom as first-team coach
Gavin Strachan has left Celtic to become first‑team coach at West Bromwich Albion, joining the English Championship side under James Morrison after six years in a comparable role at Celtic Park. The 47‑year‑old coach will bring his experience to the club as it prepares for the upcoming season.
Strachan, 47, will work directly under former Scotland midfielder James Morrison as a first‑team coach at the English Championship club. His appointment follows a six‑year spell in a similar capacity at Celtic Park.
Before joining the Scottish champions, Strachan served as assistant manager at Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United. Both clubs compete in the English football league system.
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill praised Strachan, saying, "I have only really known Gavin for the past six months, but his contribution was vital to our success and of course I wish him very well for the future." O'Neill made the comment as the club finalised its backroom staff for the next season.
Celtic have yet to confirm O'Neill's backroom staff for next season after Shaun Maloney and Stephen McManus stepped up from their club roles. Mark Fotheringham also joined on a temporary basis last season.
James Morrison backed Strachan to "bring fresh ideas" to West Brom, stating, "Having a new pair of eyes from somebody with Gavin's experience will help us massively." Morrison highlighted the value of Strachan's experience for the club.
