Genk furious as Club Brugge signs Adedeji-Sternberg behind their back

Noah Adedeji-Sternberg (21) is set to join Club Brugge after reaching a personal agreement with the Belgian champions, bypassing Racing Genk entirely. The winger, who has played 79 matches for Genk since his €1 million move from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2024, now faces a potential clash with his current club. Christian Nerlinger, Adedeji-Sternberg’s agent, informed Dimitri de Condé of the deal today, stressing the player’s insistence on transferring to Club Brugge. Genk, however, remains unaware of any contact between the two clubs, leaving them frustrated by the lack of transparency. Racing Genk had been in talks to extend Adedeji-Sternberg’s contract, which runs until 2028, adding to their dismay over the situation. The club’s anger is compounded by the fact that medical tests for the player are scheduled for Monday with Nicky Hayen’s team, raising doubts over Adedeji-Sternberg’s willingness to attend or even his welcome. Adedeji-Sternberg has scored six goals and provided six assists in 79 appearances for Genk. Transfermarkt values him at €4 million, a figure Genk is unlikely to accept for his departure. The player’s move would leave a gap in Club Brugge’s plans to replace Christos Tzolis, who is expected to leave this summer. Club Brugge is also pursuing free-agent goalkeeper Yann Sommer (37) after his Inter contract expired, along with 19-year-old midfielder Cheveyo Tsawa from FC Zürich. Meanwhile, Genk’s frustration underscores the tension between the player’s ambitions and the club’s efforts to retain him.
