Gibson Yah close to Bristol City move after Volendam deal

Gibson Yah, the Dutch midfielder, is on the brink of a move to England after Bristol City secured a verbal agreement with FC Volendam for his transfer, Yah’s single season at De Dijk, limited by Volendam’s relegation, and comes despite earlier links with Portsmouth.

Yah arrived at Volendam last summer from the youth ranks of FC Utrecht. His stint at De Dijk was limited to a single season as the club suffered relegation.

FC Volendam and Bristol City have aligned on the conditions of the transfer. The Championship side finished twelfth in the English second tier last campaign.

The remaining paperwork concerns only the final details of the deal. Yah’s contract with Volendam runs until mid‑2027 and includes an option for an additional year.

Earlier this month the midfielder was linked with Portsmouth, but that interest has faded. According to Boualin the move will not be on a free transfer, allowing Volendam to potentially cash well.

Former Ajax and Real Madrid playmaker Rafael van der Vaart and Dutch football figure Hans Kraay both praised Yah this season. An commentator described him as “the Ibrahim Sangaré of North Holland.” Van der Vaart added that “he really has everything a modern footballer needs to reach the absolute top.”
