Jahmai Simpson-Pusey joins FC Köln from Manchester City

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey has completed a permanent move from Manchester City to Bundesliga side FC Köln. The 20-year-old centre-back signs after a short‑term loan with the German club in the second half of last season. Manchester City receive an initial €5.5 million, with add‑ons that could raise the total to €7.5 million. The agreement includes a buy‑back clause and matching rights for the Premier League side. “Jahmai has settled in very quickly since his move in the winter and immediately embraced the challenge at this level,” said Köln Managing Director Thomas Kessler. “His performances have shown the potential he possesses, and we are all the more pleased that we have now been able to secure his services long‑term.” “I’ve gotten a lot of playing time here and the club has placed a lot of trust in me,” Simpson-Pusey said. “I’m grateful for that and that’s why I wanted to stay in Cologne; the playing time, the fans, the club – it all feels very good to me.” Simpson-Pusey joined Manchester City’s youth set‑up at under‑8 level and captained the FA Youth Cup‑winning side. He broke into Pep Guardiola’s plans during a difficult winter period in the 2024/25 season after impressing coaching staff on his continental stint. Sporting Director Hugo Viana structured the deal with protective matching and retrieval options to safeguard Manchester City’s long‑term interests. The club’s backline remains packed with elite options, and a new right‑sided full‑back is being pursued to complement Matheus Nunes. The €5.5 million fee is expected to be redirected toward senior reinforcements as Manchester City negotiate with Evangelos Marinakis and Nottingham Forest over England international Elliot Anderson. Enzo Maresca will aim to finalise primary targets before the squad’s Far‑East Asia pre‑season tour in late July. Other rumored targets include a new winger, with Tottenham reportedly eyeing a big‑money deal for Brazilian Savinho after previous interest was rebuffed. The club’s aggressive summer window continues to shape its transfer strategy.
