Jarell Quansah Explains Liverpool Exit Ahead of World Cup

Jarell Quansah, 23, confirmed his £35m transfer from Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen. The move precedes his selection as an England defender for the World Cup. Quansah described leaving his boyhood club as a tough decision, saying he needed week‑in‑week‑out football and Champions League exposure. He added that hard work over the past 12 months earned him the World Cup honour. Liverpool developed Quansah but could not guarantee regular minutes, illustrating how quickly elite football evolves. The club’s inability to promise a clear pathway prompted the defender to seek a new environment. In Germany, Quansah said each game improves his performance and that Champions League nights against English top teams were especially valuable. He noted the upcoming season lacks such fixtures but expects other opportunities to gain experience. Quansah can play centre back, right centre back and right back, a versatility Thomas Tuchel values for tournament squads. He highlighted England’s clean sheets in qualifying and his previous involvement with the U21 side as evidence of his readiness.
