Liverpool consider Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio

Liverpool are assessing Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio as a potential addition to their defensive rebuild. The 24-year-old centre-back has been linked with Anfield for multiple seasons. Andoni Iraola’s appointment as Liverpool manager has accelerated plans to overhaul the back line. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson have all departed this summer. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain, but another high-calibre central defender is a priority. Jeremy Jacquet arrived from Rennes in a deal reportedly worth £60 million. At 20, he is seen as both an immediate solution and long-term asset. His arrival follows Konate’s exit without a transfer fee. Inacio’s profile aligns with Iraola’s demands: comfortable in possession, progressive in passing and tactically astute. His £55 million release clause is substantial but within Liverpool’s recent investment range for defensive targets. Conor Bradley is expected to return around September after injury disruption. Jeremie Frimpong and Calvin Ramsay provide competition at right-back, where Alexander-Arnold’s creativity and influence must be distributed. Milos Kerkez is set to take on a greater role at left-back following Robertson’s move to Tottenham. Kostas Tsimikas may return from his loan at Roma to add cover. A potential back line of Bradley, Jacquet, Inacio, Van Dijk, Gomez, Kerkez and Tsimikas would blend youth, experience and technical ability. Iraola’s first season will hinge on assembling a defence capable of supporting his high-intensity style.
