Liverpool could save £70m by keeping Curtis Jones

Liverpool could avoid a £70 million outlay by retaining Curtis Jones, as Inter Milan reconsider their pursuit. A possible U‑turn at Inter means the English midfielder may stay, sparing the Reds from a costly midfield signing. The Reds spent more than £400 million on new players last summer, the highest amount in the club’s history. After finishing fifth and just securing Champions League qualification, Liverpool are expected to reinforce the squad. Curtis Jones saw limited minutes under Arne Slot, often playing out of position, prompting speculation about an exit. Slot’s limited trust in Jones contrasted with the under‑performance of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch this term. Inter Milan have shown interest since the January window, and with Jones entering the final year of his contract, Liverpool risk losing him for nothing in June 2027. Keeping Jones would remove the need to spend around £70 million on Mateus Fernandes and avoid a bidding war. Andoni Iraola, now in charge at Inter, appears to be weighing alternatives, including a potential Plan B involving Udinese and players such as Atta and the Frenchman Solet. The club has already lost Trent Alexander‑Arnold and Ibrahima Konaté in recent seasons, heightening the need to retain midfield depth.
