Liverpool Near Double Signing of Josh Chigwada and Zach Trinder

Liverpool are nearing a double signing of Everton winger Josh Chigwada and Wolves goalkeeper Zach Trinder. Both players are England U15 internationals and are highly rated.

The club’s recruitment strategy focuses on youth, with recent targets including Adam Wharton and Yan Diomande, who fit the same profile. Liverpool have already secured Samuel Martinez from Colombia and are close to signing Xavier Parker from Manchester City.

Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards are influencing the club’s long‑term planning, emphasizing a squad built for five to seven years rather than short‑term fixes. Jurgen Klopp’s era saw many key players depart, prompting a rebuild.

Alexander Isak (26) and Jeremie Frimpong (25) were signed despite being older than most targets, but both fit the long‑term plan. The club continues to prioritize players aged 23 or younger.

Josh Abe, the club’s U18 winger, is set to move up to the U21s and first team, creating a pathway for Chigwada. Recent releases of several U16 and U18 goalkeepers open space for Trinder.

The double deal reflects Liverpool’s aim to sustain competitiveness in English and European football for years to come. Peter O'Rourke noted that the signings could strengthen the academy pipeline.
