Liverpool secure Joshua Abe scholar deal, Hughes says

Richard Hughes confirmed that Liverpool Football Club have tied down Joshua Abe on a scholar contract. The 15‑year‑old winger has been with the club since age four. Liverpool, the outgoing Premier League champions, have a reputation for developing forwards. Abe featured in the UEFA Youth League and the Under‑18 Premier League last season before a leg injury in March ended his campaign. His performances attracted interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City Football Club, Chelsea Football Club and Manchester United Football Club, but Liverpool secured his signature. Liverpool have allocated the No 40 senior squad number to Abe for the pre‑season tour of the United States. With many senior players absent on FIFA World Cup duty, the teenager will have the opportunity to train with the first‑team set‑up over the summer. The club also monitor other prospects such as Rio Ngumoha, who debuted for England at 16, and Trey Nyoni, while a potential move for Vincent Joseph has been mooted. Securing Abe is described as a huge development for the Reds' youth pipeline.
