Lutsharel Geertruida Has No Contact With Liverpool
Lutsharel Geertruida currently has no contact with Liverpool.
The defender’s situation follows a January transfer that collapsed.
Liverpool had pursued Geertruida in the winter window, with reports of personal terms agreed.
The player was under contract with RB Leipzig while on loan at Sunderland, making a mid-season deal structurally difficult.
Sunderland had little incentive to lose an important defender during a key stage of their season.
RB Leipzig lacked a recall clause, preventing a straightforward sale to Liverpool.
Consequently, Liverpool faced negotiations involving three clubs and ultimately walked away.
Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof wrote on X that “Lutsharel Geertruida currently has no contact whatsoever with Liverpool.”
He added that Arne Slot wanted the defender for his versatility, but the club did not follow through despite a personal agreement.
Blaauwhof noted the ex‑Feyenoorder is now focusing on the World Cup, with any transfer to be considered later.
Geertruida has been called up to Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands World Cup squad after Jurrien Timber’s injury.
The international call‑up gives him a platform that could affect future transfer discussions.
For now, Liverpool’s interest remains paused until the summer market opens.
