Manchester City aim to extend Josko Gvardiol's contract amid Real Madrid interest
Manchester City are confident they can renew the contract of Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, who has attracted interest from Real Madrid. Gvardiol joined Manchester City three years ago and is regarded as one of the Premier League's most versatile defenders.
Gvardiol's current deal at the Etihad runs until 2028, and at 24 he still has many years ahead. His performances this season have drawn attention from clubs across Europe, and he has expressed a desire to work under Jose Mourinho.
Real Madrid view Gvardiol as a potential addition to a back‑line that already includes Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen and Antonio Rudiger. The Spanish side also target Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, who will become a free agent this summer, and are expected to sign another centre‑back as part of Mourinho’s squad overhaul.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester City hope to secure Gvardiol's agreement on a new deal this summer. Jurij Kodrun photographed Gvardiol ahead of the World Cup, while Molly Darlington provided later images of the defender.
