Manchester City release Silva, Stones and two youths
Manchester City have formally announced the release of four players after the 2025/26 season. The departing players are Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Ezra Carrington and Ashton Muir, whose contracts run until 30 June 2026.
The Premier League registry recorded the expirations, marking the end of a decade of domestic dominance for the club. The same announcement coincided with Pep Guardiola’s departure after ten years in charge.
Hugo Viana is overseeing the club’s market negotiations. Viana is reported to be contending with Manchester United for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.
Bernardo Silva and John Stones each helped secure a domestic cup double in their final season. Their exit was celebrated with an open‑top bus parade and an arena party for supporters.
Manchester City’s recruitment team is already in talks to sign central players. Rumours link the club to Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs‑White and Elliot Anderson, with Anderson described as a priority. The club aims to have a new squad ready for the 2026/27 Premier League campaign that begins on 22 August 2026.
