Marc Cucurella Pushes for Barcelona Move, Alonso Weighed Options
Marc Cucurella has indicated a desire to join FC Barcelona this summer. Chelsea Football Club manager Xabi Alonso must decide whether to retain the Spanish left‑back.
Cucurella’s Premier League season was marked by inconsistency but included a spell of strong performances on the left flank. He recorded one goal and four assists in 50 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea last season. At 27, he ranks among the most experienced left‑backs in the Premier League.
His contract with Chelsea runs until the summer of 2029, leaving the club under no immediate pressure to sell. Alonso’s assessment highlights Cucurella’s tackling, interception and crossing abilities, as well as his willingness to clear danger. The player can also operate as a left‑sided wide midfielder when required.
With his heart set on Barcelona, the Blues could find it difficult to keep him beyond the upcoming transfer window. The report suggests Chelsea could profit from a sale and reinvest the proceeds in a suitable replacement.
