Newcastle turn down Tottenham's €92m bid for Sandro Tonali

Newcastle United have rejected Tottenham Hotspur's €92m (£80m) offer for Italy international Sandro Tonali, reports from Italy and the UK confirm. The decision keeps the former Milan midfielder at the Premier League club as talks continue for the upcoming transfer window.

reported that Tottenham's initial bid was around €92m (£80m). Fabrizio Romano said the same offer, made three days earlier, was valued at €86m (£75m).

Sandro Tonali remains under contract with Newcastle United until the summer of 2029. The club holds an option to extend his deal for a further 12 months, potentially until the summer of 2030.

According to David Ornstein and The Athletic, Newcastle will seek a fee near €115m (£110m) to release Tonali this summer. Gianluca Di Marzio, citing Italian sources, suggested a lower figure around €98m (£85m) could be reached.

Tottenham argue that the prospect of playing under Italian head coach Roberto De Zerbi will appeal to Tonali. They also promote London as an attractive location for him and his family.

Manchester City and Arsenal are also reported to be interested in a potential deal for the Italian midfielder. Both clubs are said to be monitoring the situation closely this summer.

On 24 February 2026, Tonali scored Newcastle United's first goal in a UEFA Champions League knockout play‑off second‑leg against Qarabag FK at St James' Park. The action was captured by photographer Carl Recine.
