Nico O’Reilly Ready for England World Cup Debut
Nico O’Reilly has been named in England’s 2026 World Cup squad after a breakout 2025‑26 season with Manchester City. The midfielder/left‑back featured prominently for Pep Guardiola’s side throughout the campaign.
O’Reilly logged 53 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing six assists. He netted a brace in Manchester City’s 2‑0 Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal.
O’Reilly earned his first England cap last season. Thomas Tuchel’s England could start him at left‑back against Croatia in the Group L opener.
O’Reilly told the Manchester City website the World Cup is “a dream come true”. He said he cannot wait for England’s tournament to begin.
His ability to surge forward from left‑back and slot into midfield offers tactical flexibility for England. His importance to Pep Guardiola’s side grew during the season, contributing to Manchester City’s FA Cup and Carabao Cup wins.
England aim to capture their first World Cup since 1966, with O’Reilly hoping to play a crucial role.
