Pierre Sage appointed Crystal Palace head coach

Pierre Sage has signed a three‑year contract to become head coach of Crystal Palace. He will take charge on 6 July after securing a work permit. Sage replaces Oliver Glasner as the club’s manager. The 47‑year‑old Frenchman has worked as a sports coordinator, technical director, scout and youth coach before moving into management. At Lens he guided the side to a second‑place finish in Ligue 1 and delivered the club’s first Coupe de France trophy. Those achievements highlighted his tactical flexibility and ability to manage expectations. Sage said his dream was to work in England, describing the country as the best and praising the Premier League. Existing coaches Paddy McCarthy and Andy Quy will remain on the staff, with assistant Jamal Alioui providing continuity. Crystal Palace’s recent hiring pattern favours coaches who can build systems, develop players and pursue sustainable success, rather than familiar Premier League names. Sage inherits a squad with significant potential and will be expected to continue the club’s upward trajectory. Supporters may need time to adjust to his methods, but his record at Lens suggests he can punch above his weight.
