Rangers Consider Re‑signing Vaclav Cerny to Fix Attack

Turkish journalist Murat Ozen reported on the Orta Cizgi YouTube channel that Rangers FC are evaluating a possible reunion with former wide attacker Vaclav Cerny. The discussion was translated by Kartalın Asaleti JK on X. A photo by Ion Alcoba Beitia shows Cerny under pressure from Yeray of Athletic Club during the UEFA Europa League quarter‑final second leg on 17 April 2025 in Bilbao. Cerny began in the FK Příbram academy before moving to the Ajax academy in the Netherlands. He featured for Ajax reserves, earned limited first‑team minutes, then transferred to Utrecht. A loan spell at Twente became permanent in the summer of 2021, and a strong 2022‑23 season prompted a move to VfL Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg accepted a loan fee of around €1.5 million when Rangers approached in July 2024. During the 2024‑25 loan Cerny recorded 18 goals and nine assists across 52 appearances. Rumours of a return last summer faded after the club’s ownership change, a new manager, other priority signings and a high asking price. Cerny later signed for Besiktas, the Black Eagles, after the loan period. He contributed seven goals and eight assists in 34 outings as Besiktas finished fourth in the league. The club indicated it could entertain offers in the region of £6 million, the amount it originally invested. Rangers have added Mikey Moore, Thelo Aasgaard, Djieidi Gassama and Oliver Antman to widen their options on the flanks. They also secured a winter loan for Andreas Skov Olsen from VfL Wolfsburg, but his form and fitness prevented a permanent deal. Moore has returned to Tottenham Hotspur after his season‑long loan, while Antman and Aasgaard have yet to become regular attacking threats. Primarily left‑footed, Cerny operates as an inverted right winger, known for finishing, agility and a willingness to battle for the ball. His familiarity with the physicality of Scottish football made him a fan favourite at Rangers. The management is urged to engage Besiktas to secure his services at Ibrox.
