Real Madrid sign Cucurella, boosting Balde's Barcelona role
Marc Cucurella has completed a transfer to Real Madrid, a move that strengthens Alejandro Balde's standing at Barcelona. The deal removes the uncertainty that surrounded Balde's future after weeks of speculation.
Barcelona had been linked with a possible acquisition of Cucurella as the club explored options at left‑back. Those rumours raised questions about Balde's long‑term role on the left flank.
With Cucurella choosing Real Madrid, Barcelona now appears prepared to continue trusting Balde rather than entering the market for a new starting left‑back. While his position is not untouchable, Balde's intention remains to stay and fight for his place.
Having missed the World Cup squad, Balde will return to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on July 13 for the start of pre‑season. The extra time offers him a chance to rebuild confidence under Hansi Flick's plans.
