Real Madrid sign Marc Cucurella, Barcelona to receive €1.35m solidarity fee
Real Madrid announced the signing of Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella on a six-year contract running to 2032. The 27-year-old Spaniard is a former La Masia graduate and will join the Spanish giants.
The transfer fee is reported at around €55 million plus €5 million in performance-related add‑ons. Under FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, 5 % of the fee is allocated to clubs that trained the player between ages 12 and 23.
Barcelona, which developed Cucurella from age 14 to 20, is set to receive roughly €1.35 million – about 2.5 % of the total fee. Espanyol, Getafe and Brighton & Hove Albion will each collect smaller shares, estimated at €275 000, €550 000 and €275 000 respectively.
The payment illustrates the long‑term financial value of Barcelona’s academy, showing that former La Masia prospects can generate revenue for the club long after they depart.
