Red Bull Salzburg negotiate Danny Rohl's move from Rangers
Red Bull Salzburg are in talks with Rangers about Danny Rohl. Rohl has been Rangers manager for seven months.
Rohl's contract with Rangers runs until 2028 and contains no release clause, so a compensation package must be negotiated. He originally rejected Rangers' approach but reconsidered after Kevin Muscat's talks collapsed. The clubs must agree on terms before any move.
Salzburg are searching for a new manager after Daniel Beichler was dismissed. Beichler had guided Salzburg to third place in the Austrian Bundesliga, earning a Europa League qualifying spot. His departure opened the vacancy that Rohl could fill.
Danny Rohl is German and began his coaching career at RB Leipzig under Ralph Hassenhuttl, later following Hassenhuttl to Southampton. He later managed Sheffield Wednesday, making Salzburg his third senior appointment. Red Bull's football operations are overseen by Rohl's compatriot Jurgen Klopp.
Rohl took over Rangers after Russell Martin was sacked in October, inheriting a sixth‑place Scottish Premiership position. He lifted Rangers into a title race with Celtic and Hearts but four defeats in the final five games ended their championship hopes. Rangers also exited the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup to Celtic and finished 32nd in the Europa League league phase, missing the knockout play‑offs.
