Sabri Lamouchi dismissed by Tunisia after 5-1 World Cup loss

Sabri Lamouchi has been dismissed as Tunisia head coach after the team's 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the opening World Cup match. The Tunisian Football Association said the Frenchman's contract was ended by mutual agreement. Lamouchi becomes the first manager in World Cup history to lose his job after a single game. Reports suggested he was sacked immediately, but he attended a training session on Monday following the loss. The 54-year-old Frenchman spent four months at Cardiff City, signing a short‑term contract in January 2023 and recording six wins in 18 games to keep Cardiff City in the Championship. Owner Vincent Tan chose not to renew his contract in May 2023 despite Lamouchi's openness to extending his stay. After a stint with two Saudi clubs and a brief spell as Nottingham Forest manager, Lamouchi was appointed Tunisia coach in January 2026, winning 1‑0 over Haiti in his first game and suffering warm‑up defeats of 1‑0 to Austria and 5‑0 to Belgium.
