Steve Howey says losing Sandro Tonali would be a major blow

Steve Howey, former Newcastle United defender, says losing Sandro Tonali would be a major blow for Newcastle United. The 26‑year‑old midfielder is attracting interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham, and Howey discussed the situation on BBC Radio Newcastle. Howey suggested Tonali would ideally fancy returning to AC Milan. He added that there are also Tottenham links for the midfielder. Howey remarked, "Tottenham would be a strange move to me because of where they finished the past two seasons." He noted that the club’s London location could still attract the player. He argued that the pull of London might be significant for Tonali and his family. Howey contrasted this with Newcastle being a lovely place to live but not London. Howey said, "I can't see Tottenham being anything near what they have been the past two seasons with Roberto de Zerbi in charge." He speculated that Tonali might want to be part of a turnaround if the club improves. Howey warned that some people might question Tonali's loyalty after the early issue at Newcastle, but he said, "I don't think there is any of that going on." He emphasized that no such concerns exist. Howey called Tonali a top player and one of the best midfielders Newcastle have got. He said his quality is also why other clubs are looking at him. He noted that interest from clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United often leads to player departures. He concluded that Newcastle fans may not like a potential exit, but the market reality remains.
