Tottenham Hotspur Face Competition for Gremio Defender Viery
Tottenham Hotspur are competing with Sunderland, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Hove Albion, Benfica and Fiorentina for Gremio centre-back Viery. The 21‑year‑old Brazilian is a target in this summer transfer window.
Viery progressed through Gremio’s youth system and featured in 27 matches for the senior side last season. He contributed two goals and one assist across all competitions. He is regarded as one of Brazil’s top young centre‑backs.
Standing 1.87 m tall, Viery combines aerial strength with aggressive tackling. He can clear the ball, play out from deep and also operate as a left‑back when required.
Roberto De Zerbi could use Viery as a rotational option in Tottenham Hotspur’s defence while assessing his adaptation to Premier League intensity. The player’s development will require patience before he can become a regular starter.
Viery’s contract with Gremio runs until the end of 2029, meaning Tottenham must secure his services before the window closes. A prompt move would avoid a costly long‑term deal later.
