Tottenham join City and Arsenal for Tonali
Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for Newcastle United’s Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali, joining Manchester City and Arsenal in the pursuit. The club’s board is prepared to meet the £100 million barrier to secure the Premier League midfielder.
Roberto De Zerbi’s new direction at Tottenham follows his steering of the side away from a shock relegation into the EFL Championship last season. The North London club’s overhaul aims to restore European football and pits them directly against Manchester City’s recruitment under incoming manager Enzo Maresca. Manchester City recently secured Josko Gvardiol on a contract extension until 2031, showing the Etihad hierarchy’s willingness to spend big. The development follows Pep Guardiola’s exit from the club.
Transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano reported Tottenham’s interest, while journalist Matteo Moretto confirmed that Manchester City also monitors Tonali. Manchester United have also been linked, and Tonali is said to be open to a move to Tottenham.
Manchester City sporting director Hugo Viana is weighing a big‑money bid for Tonali against a focus on Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who could set a new British transfer record. City’s first‑team squad is due to report for pre‑season training ahead of an Asia tour, with Enzo Maresca eager to assess his options.
