Wrexham's five‑year rise closes with Paul Mullin's departure

Paul Mullin, the 31‑year‑old striker who helped Wrexham climb from the National League to the Championship, will leave the club after a mutual contract termination. The former Cambridge forward scored 110 goals in 172 appearances during his five‑year spell, becoming the club’s ninth‑highest scorer.

Mullin’s exit ends a period in which he was central to Wrexham’s ascent, featuring prominently in the award‑winning Welcome to Wrexham docuseries. His departure was confirmed following the settlement that allows him time to find a new club.

Co‑owner Ryan Reynolds said he “could not imagine seeing Mulls on loan and in another kit” after the striker’s move to Wigan last season. Reynolds’ comment highlighted the player’s iconic status among the club’s supporters.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson wished Mullin well, stating, “I would like to wish Paul all the best. This settlement enables him to take his time and find the right club for him, going forward.” Parkinson added, “It can’t be underestimated the role Mulls has played in the story of Wrexham Football Club over the last five years, with so many memorable goals and moments.”

Mullin spent the previous season on loan at League One side Wigan Athletic, where he made 26 appearances across all competitions and scored five goals. He then joined Bradford City on loan for the second half of the campaign, featuring in nine matches without scoring. During his time at Wrexham he earned three consecutive player‑of‑the‑season awards and was one of only ten players to achieve three straight promotions with the club.

Wrexham narrowly missed the Championship play‑offs, losing out to Hull City on the final day of the season. Hull City subsequently won the play‑offs to secure a return to the Premier League. The Welsh side will aim for another promotion push next season, now without Mullin in its squad.
