£18m bid tests Bournemouth’s ambition for a Premier League striker

🇬🇧

Bournemouth are reportedly negotiating an £18m transfer for 21‑year‑old striker Alvaro Rodriguez, who netted seven goals for Elche in the 2023‑24 La Liga season and is being positioned as a potential Premier League goal scorer. The move would see him replace existing options in the Cherries' attacking line.

Spanish football expert Juan Castro told BBC Radio Solent that "it's not a big star in the Spanish league, but he is a striker who can score a lot of goals for Bournemouth" and added that the player must "progress and upgrade" to succeed in England's top flight.

Castro highlighted Rodriguez's physical qualities, noting he is "a great header of the ball" and that he "creates space for himself inside the box" while being "selfish enough to create his space between the defenders".

He also recalled that the forward "promised a lot at Real Madrid initially, then Getafe, and in the last season Elche", suggesting a pattern of high expectations across his career.

Meanwhile, first‑team coaches Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper have left Bournemouth to join Andoni Iraola at Liverpool, a move described by former defender Warren Cummings as "incredible" and indicative of Iraola's influence.

Cummings said, "For those two I'm delighted and I don't think it's a move they can turn down," underscoring the appeal of the Liverpool opportunity for the coaching duo.

The reported £18m fee underscores Bournemouth's active pursuit of Premier League talent as they reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
