£55m price tag puts Jules Kounde within Liverpool’s reach

🇬🇧

Liverpool are eyeing Barcelona defender Jules Kounde after the Spanish club lowered his price to £55m. Mark Brus reported that Liverpool are “keeping an eye on developments” as Barcelona appear ready to sanction the 27‑year‑old’s departure this summer in the transfer market.

Mark Brus said Liverpool are “keeping an eye on developments” regarding Jules Kounde and noted that Barcelona are “surprisingly” prepared to sanction his exit. The Spanish champions consider the French international “expendable” at Camp Nou, indicating a shift in their defensive plans.

Kounde’s valuation was previously placed between £65m and £70m, but Barcelona have now listed him for £55m. This reduced fee, according to the report, reflects Barcelona’s willingness to invite “more concrete interest” from potential buyers.

The report adds that Barcelona have been “sounding out previous suitors such as Chelsea and Liverpool as possible buyers”. This suggests the club is actively exploring options beyond the French defender’s current contract.

Liverpool’s defence has already changed this summer with Ibrahima Konate’s departure and the arrival of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. Yet manager Andoni Iraola may still seek an experienced addition to complement the reshaped back line.

Kounde is “equally comfortable at centre‑back or right‑back”, offering Liverpool tactical flexibility across two key positions. At 27, he provides a blend of experience that contrasts with Liverpool’s recent focus on younger, long‑term prospects.

The lowered valuation creates a “transfer opportunity” that could attract further interest as elite defenders rarely drop below market price. Should Liverpool deem the £55m package worthwhile, the deal would mark a notable deviation from their usual recruitment strategy.
